Produced and co-written by Andy Skib (Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Hunter Hayes), “New Name” continues Purcell’s passion for creating music that aligns with her most authentic self, showcasing her unwavering faith.
“A couple years ago, when God started leading me in a new direction musically, ‘New Name’ was one of the first songs I wrote,” shares Purcell. “I remember writing it in my kitchen, and the words and melodies felt like water I was trying to catch out of an open faucet. The song fell out so fast and resonated with me deeply. Since coming to belief in Jesus, I'm not a slave to the enemy's calls and tricks anymore, for I have been given a new name and a new identity in Christ. What an amazing gift.
“I took my lyrics and voice memos of melodies to my talented friend and producer, Andy Skib, and he helped me find the chords I was hearing in my head, bringing the song to life,” continues Purcell. “I hope it blesses you with a reminder of who you are in Christ.”
“New Name” Chorus: My name’s “never forgotten”
My name is “finally free”
My name is “I’m adopted
By the Prince of Peace”
My name is “I belong to
A Holy legacy”
That’s written in a Book of Life,
I don’t answer to them foolish chains
Nah- nah- nah
I have been given a new name
(New name)
I have been given a new name
(New name)
Signing an exclusive, worldwide recording and publishing contract with Centricity Music last year, Purcell has also released her three-song, three-video Live from Muscle Shoals EP from the label. The EP features live performances of “Show Up,” “Have Church” and “You Must Not Know My God” recorded just down the road from where she grew up at Fame Recording Studios, which is known as the “Home of the Muscle Shoals Sound.” She had no idea she would one day follow in the footsteps of many of the iconic musicians who have recorded there.
