Interview: Peterson Jean-Marie
Worship leader and songwriter Peterson Jean-Marie has released his new single 'Take It All', and Louder Than The Music caught up with him to find out more about his music.
Tell us a bit about your new single 'Take It All'.
I wrote it just before Covid. Ironically it was talking about not sitting still and to do more for God but first surrendering. I believe now more than ever we need that encouragement to get back out and strive for God. Upbeat clash of pop and funk.
What are your hopes for your career as an artist?
I have hopes of pursuing God and have as many people join me in the process. With a Degree in Church ministries I plan to use my knowledge and gifting to love God and love people. I play a wide variety of genre due to my past experiences in different worship teams, choirs, and jazz bands.
Do you have any plans to release more music in the near future?
Yes absolutely! I’ve had many roadblocks in the past when it comes to releasing music and since then I’ve grown so all my music sound very different through the years. However the message is the same.
What message would you like people to take from your music?
I want my music to point to Jesus. I want my listeners to know who he is and what he’s done in our lives.
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
I’m a melting pot of contemporary, soul, pop, and gospel so my influences range from Chris Tomlin to Tasha Cobbs Lenard and many more.
If you could write with any artist who would it be and why?
This list can go on forever!! But I’ll name a few Jimmy Needham - his style is so versatile and an amazing lyricist
Kirk Franklin - been listening to him all my life, awesome musician
Tori Kelly - phenomenal singer! She can run marathons
Tauren wells - same as Tori Kelly
Maverick city, casting crowns, Toby Mac, Jon reddick
I could be here forever hahah!
