Superchick Offer Free Song Download For National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

Feb 23 2010

As part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, US alternative pop/rock band Superchick are making their song 'Courage' available as a free download from their website. Group member Melissa Brock, who co-wrote the song, said: "This week is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, and some of you who know me better know that this hits close to home for me. I know full-well the pressures that society and even friends sometimes place on us to be thin and beautiful. It started for me when I was 15. I know what it's like to not feel pretty, to feel fat, to feel like no one would ever want to be with you or even be friends with you because you feel so bad about yourself.

But I also know how it feels to be free from those pressures and feel a love and acceptance that isn't humanly possible. I hope that my story and our song 'Courage' - which is all about my struggle with an eating disorder - reaches someone out there who has been or is where I have been. The biggest step is knowing you aren't alone.

And I am telling you, yes you who is reading this right now and thinking about not eating today, YOU ARE NOT ALONE... because I understand. I am there with you and someone so much bigger is there as well."
The singer then signs herself as "Melissa: Anorexic".
