Delirious? Interview Coming Soon

Mar 06 2009

Last night I had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours in the company of Jon Thatcher, Delirious? bass player. We met up for a couple of drinks and a long chat in a pub in Chichester, which is mid way between where we both live. I've been friends with Jon for a number of years now, having got to know him through my Delirious? website. I hadn't seen him since just before Christmas, so it was great to catch up on all his news.

We talked about what happens next for him, and the rest of the band. It's a difficult time for all them at the moment, with the decision to bring the band to an end. There's still a Delirious? farewell tour to come, but after that the band will be no more.

While we were there I also did a short interview with him, which will be appearing on Louder in the next few days. Keep checking back for that to read all Jon's thoughts on the decision to quit, the highlights of their career and what happens next. It was a slightly surreal experience interviewing Jon in a pub. A couple of times I noticed the people on the next table glance up with curiosity as they heard a few snippets of the conversation like "radio.... singles.... charts.... touring with Bon Jovi".

I don't think Jon will mind me saying that a couple of times his voice was filled with emotion as we talked about this end of an era. It's hardly surprising, all of Jon's adult life has been spent being the bass player in Delirious? You can't imagine a more tightly knit group of people, and that friendship and sense of togetherness is something that they will all miss more than anything.

Dave
