BlueTree release Album in America

Mar 09 2009

This week Belfast based band BlueTree released their debut album 'God Of This City' in the US, formerly known as 'Greater Things' in Europe. They have rapidly moved up the charts in their first week and hit No. 1 on the Christian Retail and Praise & Worship chart, No. 6 on the Billboard Top Christian & Gospel chart and No. 125 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. To date they are the highest debut new artist to release in the US Christian Music Scene in 2009.

BlueTree have had huge success with their song 'God Of This City' which went before them when Chris Tomlin featured the song of his album 'Hello Love'. The song became one of the anthems for the Passion World Tour and has since been used in churches across the globe.

The song was written during a mission trip to Pattaya, Thailand, while the band were performing on stage at a club in the Red Light district. During that moment 'God Of This City' was born and became a message of hope for the people of Pattaya.

"Growing up in Belfast means that we've grown used to people crying in church, begging God to change our city. I don't know whether you become numb to it all, but I do know that I had never really had those kind of feelings for a particular place. It all changed that night in Pattaya. The feelings of compassion took over and I started just to sing out what I knew was true about who God is to the people of the city."

"God Of This City has become one of those unique soundtracks; a declaration of the truth and an encouragement to all who hear it to believe it. That growth means the song has now travelled far further than the band itself. God Of This City seems to have struck a chord, not just with groups and churches, but also individuals who are no longer satisfied with living out a short-sighted faith."

"Bluetree is all about being unique in a world that often reveres conformity. If you're in a forest and there's nothing but green trees, everything being as you'd normally see it, but then you see a blue tree with blue bark, blue leaves, blue branches, well, it would catch your eye. And as Christians we're called to stand out, to be different, like blue trees." - Aaron Boyd
