Interview: Philippa Hanna
Check out our Mini Interview series. We have asked the brilliant singer songwriter Philippa Hanna five quick fire questions about music. Have a read below.
1. Which artist inspired you to want to be a musician ?
I grew up in a very musical family so all my early influences are people I'm related to! My dad is an incredibly talented musician, singer and all round entertainer. I learned everything I know from him really. But my first album was 'A Song For You' by the Carpenters and that gave me a profound love for harmony. Later it was Stevie Wonder, Prince, Whitnery Houston, Alanis Morrisette and The Police.
2. Favorite Album of all time ?
I have a few, but 'Off The Wall' by Michael Jackson never gets old.
3. First Gig ?
My first live performance was on stage with my dad at 2 years old. I sang 'It's a long way to Tipperary' and ran off stage crying because of the flashing lights, bless me. My first paid show was a working Men's Club in Yorkshire at the age of 18.
4. Last Gig ?
My last gig was with Israel Houghton - I joined him for his set at The Experience in Lagos, Nigeria. The crowd was close to a million strong!
5. What does next year look like for you ?
Next year: lots of new music coming, more touring, and hopefully more opportunities to connect with people through both worship and storytelling.
