Genre-Spanning Singer/Songwriter Gabrielle Lovelace Discovers 'You Can't Put God In A Box'

Jan 13 2026

Offering unique perspective on the depths of His love and vastness of His grandeur, acclaimed singer/songwriter Gabrielle Lovelace opens the new year with 'You Can't Put God In A Box.' Now available on all streaming platforms, the Old Bear Records release showcases Lovelace’s unmistakable Joni Mitchell-meets-Diana Krall vocal styling atop a breezy classic jazz groove.

Proclaiming “He is Truth above the feelings/Author of the meaning/Beginning and the Ending/The Painter and the Frame,” “You Can’t Put God In A Box” was penned and co-produced by Lovelace. Executive produced by Anthony Hoisington (Brothers McClurg) and co-produced by Wayne Haun (Celine Dion), the single features contributions from some of Nashville’s first call session players, including Jason Webb (keys), Scott Williamson (drums), and Danny O’Lannerghty (bass).

“This song is special to me because it’s the result of hearing several stories, having multiple conversations, and spending many hours alone at the piano and on my knees,” Lovelace shares. “Sacred moments in parking lots, movie theaters, church pews, and restaurants all flash through my mind whenever I sing ‘You Can’t Put God In A Box,’ as I recall the months that were spent hammering out the lyrics. A meager attempt at explaining Who God is, I ultimately came to the conclusion that He is simply unexplainable.”

“He tells us Who He is in so many ways, yet we can never fully wrap our minds around it,” she adds. “We have only to accept Him, and worship Him as best we know how. ‘Every word falls short of the love that says it all.’ But when words fail, hopefully the music can say a little more.”

“You Can’t Put God In A Box” is the latest in a string of head-turning singles from Lovelace, following last year’s genre-spanning releases “Bob Dylan Rhythm,” “It’s Gonna Be Yesterday,” and “Somewhere Between.” In addition, her holiday offering, “Let the Christmas Music Play,” garnered more than 250 playlist adds and helped further galvanize 2025 as Lovelace’s breakout year.
