Ginny Owens Treads A 'Different Kind Of Water'

Jan 27 2026

Giving voice to thoughts on life, legacy, and faith that have long ruminated in the recesses of her heart, Dove and ASCAP Award-winning singer/songwriter Ginny Owens bows Different Kind of Water February 20. Her first new collection in three years, the EP was produced by Kyle Schonewill and features five selections all co-written by Owens.

Moments of poignant honesty, wistful reflection, and resolute hope define Different Kind of Water, a project Owens has quietly cultivated for several years. “Here, you’ll find songs about what we do with our endless restlessness and longings,” she shares. “About how we train our hearts to hope, even in darkness. About forgiveness, brokenness, and what it means to live life to the fullest…what it means to dive into a different kind of water.”

The infectious pulse of the Owens, Tyrus Morgan, and Michael Farren-penned title-cut underscores a familiar ache for more. “As a creative person, I live in an endless state of longing—for my next big adventure, my next favorite creation, my next challenge,” Owens explains. “But what I’ve learned is this: we can redirect it. We need something—Someone—different to long for. I believe there’s only one thing that truly satisfies the soul. It isn’t found in success, acclaim, or adventure. It’s supernatural. It’s not of this world.”

Different Kind of Water also features Owens’ latest single, “God Will Meet You There.” The stirring piano ballad, which she wrote with Tony Wood and Cindy Morgan, offers comforting assurance in the face of hardship: “When the weight of disappointment/Feels more than you can bear/He’s not put off by your anger/God will meet you there.” Additionally, the EP showcases the Gospel-tinged “On Repeat”; “Let This Go,” a powerful anthem of forgiveness; and the percolating pop closer “Give It Away,” reminding listeners of the joy found in giving freely and loving extravagantly.

Celebrating the launch of Different Kind of Water, Owens is set for two EP release events next month. She will present an evening of songs and stories at Moshava Art in New York’s Greenwich Village on February 6, and at Nashville’s Museum of Christian & Gospel Music on February 10.

In addition to the EP's release across all streaming platforms February 20, Owens has created a Different Kind of Water softcover journal featuring lyrics and credits, in-depth stories behind each song, prompts for personal reflection, and a CD. The special book and CD combo is available for preorder now.
