Blog: Supporting Compassion
So, Louder has been running for 2 weeks now, and by now hopefully you're starting to get a feel for the website. What I also hope you've noticed is that we are proud to be supporting the Compassion charity. You've probably spotted that we have a permanent Compassion advert on the front page of the site, and there is also a little mention about Compassion in the 'About' section. But in case you don't know much more than that, let me explain a little more about Compassion.
Compassion International is a Christian charity that was founded more than 50 years ago. It helps to support children in some of the poorest situations and countries in the world. In fact, Compassion now helps more than 1 million children in 25 different countries. They help to save these children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.
You may wonder why Louder is getting behind this charity - well let me explain. In truth, we could have picked any charity - but Compassion is a charity that is close to the hearts of both Jono and I - the founding members of Louder. We both sponsor children in different parts of the world through Compassion, and have found it to be one of the most incredible and fulfilling things imaginable. When you sponsor a child through Compassion, not only are you helping them financially, but you also get to interact with them through letters and cards. You get to hear, in their own words, exactly what impact your sponsorship has on their lives. We have received the most incredible letters, full of gratitude, explaining how Compassion helps them go to school and supports their family. It is both humbling and rewarding, and brings a lump to your throat when you realise how these people live.
Maybe you could consider sponsoring a child with Compassion, either on your own or with a group of friends from your youth group or church. Or maybe you could just make the occasional donation. Either way - we would strongly urge you to find out more about the work Compassion does.
It's early days at Louder, and we have no idea yet if the advertising system we are running will produce even enough revenue to cover the running costs of the site. However, we have pledged that if the site does make any profit, we will donate 10% directly to Compassion. It's a charity that we love, and one which needs all the help it can get.
Dave
