Interview: Tree63 - John Ellis
Check out our mini interview with the brilliant Tree63 frontman John Ellis
1. Which artist or artists first inspired you to become a musician, and what about them sparked that passion?
It was Elvis when I was aged 10, followed by The Beatles soon after. Elvis is undeniable. The Beatles made me want to pick up a guitar and be in a band.
2. What’s your all-time favourite album, and why does it stand out for you?
“The Unforgettable Fire” by U2. It moved me like nothing I’d ever heard, either before or since. It still does.
3. What was the very first gig you ever went to? Where was it, and when?
Johnny Clegg and his band Juluka, here in South Africa, in my hometown of Durban, outside a supermarket on a Saturday morning. South African legends and well known around the world!
4. What’s the most recent gig you’ve been to? Where and when was it?
a-Ha live in Johannesburg, a few weeks before COVID arrived.
5. What does the next year look like for you - any exciting plans, projects, or goals?
New single, new video, new album, new concerts, lots of music to make and new songs to write. Plans, projects and goals mostly involve finding new guitars!
