I'll admit from the outset that this isn't the style of music I naturally gravitate towards. Modern worship, pop and rock are usually where I feel most at home, so American Morning proved to be an interesting album to spend time with. The more I listened, however, the more I found myself appreciating the craftsmanship behind these songs.

One of the album's biggest strengths is its musicianship. The acoustic guitars sound superb throughout, warm, rich and beautifully recorded. The opening track, First Greatest Wonder, immediately catches the ear with its varied guitar tones, setting the standard for the rest of the album. People continues that high-quality production, wrapping its thoughtful lyrics in an inviting, easy-listening sound.

Miracle of Mercy stands out thanks to its confident vocal performance, while Freedom's Never Free delivers one of the album's most memorable moments. It's a heartfelt reminder to stand firm and keep your head held high, and the key change towards the end lifts the song perfectly, adding an extra sense of emotion and conviction.

At its heart, this is a classic country album built on storytelling. Every song feels like it has something to say, yet Chosen Road never allow the record to become predictable. Elements of bluegrass, gospel and Americana weave naturally throughout, giving each track its own personality while keeping the album cohesive.

Among the highlights for me were That's Worth Saving and Life In America, both of which capture the band's ability to tell engaging stories through memorable melodies. Then there's A God Thing, an upbeat burst of pure banjo-driven joy that brings a smile from the very first note.

The title track, American Morning, sits perfectly in the middle of the album and feels like its centre piece. It draws together the themes of faith, hope and gratitude that run through the project, making it the song around which the rest of the record naturally revolves.

While American Morning may not have converted me into a lifelong country music fan, it certainly left me with a greater appreciation for the genre and for Chosen Road's obvious talent. It's an album full of heart, exceptional musicianship and authentic storytelling that fans of bluegrass, country and gospel music will find easy to enjoy.
