Opening track 'Hunger' is a wonderful introduction to the album. It immediately feels fresh and modern, with a laid-back contemporary sound that draws you in from the very first note. Instead, it leans into a contemporary pop sound that will feel familiar to younger listeners while still carrying a strong message of faith. It's refreshing to hear the music embrace a style that feels so current and authentic.

One of the album's greatest strengths is its variety. Every song brings something different, ensuring the album never feels repetitive. I particularly loved the lo-fi influences found throughout, especially the indie-pop feel that gives Simple its own distinctive identity.

The title track, 'Simple', lives up to its name. It's beautifully understated, yet emotionally expressive. There is something hauntingly beautiful about it, with hope woven throughout every lyric. The vocal performance here is exceptional, allowing the song's message to breathe naturally without ever feeling forced.

For me, however, the standout moment on the entire album is 'You', beautifully performed by Cassidy Estevez. This is a stunning piece of alternative pop and, quite simply, a masterpiece. The song speaks to anyone who has ever questioned where life is leading them or wondered if they're enough. It's honest, vulnerable and deeply moving.

The album closes with 'Far From Perfect', a stripped-back recording presented as a simple voice memo. With almost nothing but a quiet voice and raw honesty, it creates one of the most intimate moments on the record. I won't say too much because it's a song that deserves to be experienced for yourself. I absolutely love both the recording style and the emotional impact it creates.

Simple takes listeners on a genuine musical journey. There are energetic songs of praise, modern alternative pop moments, quieter reflections and everything in between. It carries a youthful energy while never sacrificing substance.

What impressed me most, though, wasn't simply the creativity or the excellent production. It's the lyrical honesty running throughout the album. Yes, the songs boldly proclaim that God is good, but they also recognise that life isn't always straightforward. There are struggles, disappointments, questions, moments of joy and moments of pain. Rather than pretending everything is perfect, Simple acknowledges the messiness of life while continually pointing back to the faithfulness of God. That honesty gives the album a depth that some worship releases sometimes miss a little.

From passionate praise to quiet moments alone with Jesus, Simple as an album reflects the full emotional spectrum of everyday life, making it both relatable and deeply encouraging.

This is one of the most refreshing, creative and honest albums I've heard this year, and one I expect to return to time and time again.
