Interview: Mary-Clair
Contemporary Christian Music rising star Mary-Clair just performed at the sold-out sixth annual Harvest of Hope Family Concert last Saturday, in Mattoon, IL. Louder Than The Music caught up with the Nashville singer-songwriter shortly after she came off stage from another major live appearance in a busy year for her.
Hi Mary-Clair - you've just come off stage after performing at the Harvest of Hope Family Concert in Illinois - tell us how that felt?
It was AMAZING! It was one of my biggest shows yet, and it was beautiful. I saw so many wonderful faces, and it felt so good to worship the Lord at such a great event. It was a new challenge for me, and I learned so much.
What songs did you perform for the crowd and which one did you feel was most well received?
I sang "Your Love," "Homesick," "Heaven in the Way," "There's a God," and "Enough." Folks definitely connected with "Heaven in the Way" and "There's a God" the most!
The event also featured some other pretty big-name performers - did you get to watch any of them or hang out with them?
Yes! My dear friend Sam Wesley also played, so it was wonderful to watch him take the stage. And MercyMe of course! I also got the chance to hang out with Tasha Layton, she is so sweet!
You have another special show coming up at the start of October - tell us a bit about that?I am hosting my next house show on October 3rd and I am so excited to play music with my dear friends!
What can audiences expect from that event?
To enjoy an intimate night of music and good company!
Your debut album has received so much attention already - but are you already working on more new music? How is that progressing and how different will it be to 'Enough' ?
I am excited for what's to come, but I'm not saying goodbye to the songs on "Enough" yet....they definitely have more life left to live. But as I look to the future I am looking forward to music that will glorify God and be an honest representation of who I am.
Do you have more live dates lined up after the House Show? Where can people see you perform next?
I am hoping to play some more shows soon, and I will keep folks updated on my Instagram!
Looking back on an incredible year - what have been the highlights for you personally?
A highlight for me this year was releasing "Rise Up" with Steven Malcolm. It was truly a joy to collaborate with an artist like him! Also, performing at JFEST and Harvest of Hope were major highlights!
Looking ahead to next year - what's the single biggest thing you hope to achieve?
I hope to play more shows, release more music, and grow closer to God!
