Opening track 'Scream' lives up to its title, delivering all the intensity and aggression you'd expect from a band like Skillet. This is Skillet doing what Skillet do best, with a powerful sound that grabs your attention and refuses to let go.

'Lift Me Up' is another great track. While it might seem an unusual thing to highlight, I particularly love the verses here. The melody and phrasing of those lines are really interesting, giving the song something distinctive that draws you in. It's a strong track that showcases the band's ability to combine heavy rock with memorable songwriting.

'Grave Stomper' brings some fantastic metal drumming to the EP, alongside stunning vocals from John Cooper. There's a real weight and intensity to the track, with the musicianship helping drive the song forward. It's another highlight for those who love the heavier side of Skillet's sound.

'Heaven Helps Us' explores a slightly softer, more melodic side of the metal spectrum. It's a really great song, with a catchy chorus that feels tailor-made for radio. Skillet have always had a knack for balancing their heavier sound with accessible melodies, and this track is a great example of that ability.

Metal fans needn't worry about things getting too gentle, though! The EP closes with 'Come And Find Me', which soon has the distortion pedals firmly back on. It's a welcome return to the heavier sound, bringing the collection to a powerful finish.

One thing I've always appreciated about Skillet's releases is the sheer commitment the band brings to their music, and After the Storm is no exception. Whether they're delivering crushing metal riffs, powerful vocals or a more melodic, radio-friendly chorus, there's a real sense that the band gives everything they've got.

With six tracks that showcase both their heavier edge and their talent for memorable songwriting, After the Storm is a strong addition to the Skillet catalogue. It's great to hear the band embracing their heavier side while still delivering the hooks and melodies that have helped make them such a popular name in rock music.
