Not another compilation I hear you cry, no, this one has a twist. This album is what happens when a bunch of Christian songwriters and worship leaders come together to create original recordings of some of their best loved hymns.
Chris McClarney, Aaron Keyes, Tim Hughes, Chris Eaton and Derri Daugherty came together to rediscover some of the greatest songs from the church history. From Immortal Invisible to O Church Arise, I Know That My Redeemer Lives to Blessed Redeemer these are some of the songs that have been re-recorded with a modern slant.

Modern Hymnal 2.0 is sixteen songs drawn from some of the greatest hymn-writers of all time: past greats like Charles Wesley and Fanny Crosby to modern hymn writers like Stuart Townend and Keith Getty.
Overall I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this album, each song is sung with passion and care is taken not to loose the power of the original, yet the artists add their own style to the songs, which is done very well on all the songs.
If I am being really honest, if I saw this on a shelf and read what the album was about, without listening I probably would have put it straight back. But I would highly recommend this album to you, as the versions of the songs on this album are high quality modern sounds with the power and theological lyrics that are associated with hymns. I dare you to be brave and explore great worship songs of the past that have been reproduced and recorded with a modern twist. And on a side note, I love the cover. Kind of reminds me of the logo on a certain website I know of...
