Review

There’s something wonderfully warm and genuine about *I Will Follow*, the new EP from rising worship artist Charles Weems. Across these six tracks, Weems delivers a collection of songs that feel rooted in faith, built around heartfelt worship and, most importantly, designed to draw the listener closer to God.

‘Tis So Sweet’ gets things moving with a real sense of forward momentum, setting the tone beautifully for what follows. There’s an energy to the music that makes it easy to connect with, while still leaving room for the message to shine through.

For me, though, the real highlight is ‘God Is Everywhere’. It’s a sublime song and one that deserves to be heard, offering a powerful reminder that God remains present through every season of life. Whether we’re experiencing joy, uncertainty or hardship, it’s a message we all need to be reminded of from time to time.

Another lovely moment comes with ‘It’s Gonna Happen’, featuring the brilliant Janelle Balasquide. Sitting alongside ‘God Is Everywhere’, it makes for a particularly strong section of the EP, with both songs offering plenty to connect with musically and lyrically. ‘Lover Of My Life (I Need You)’ brings a more heartfelt worship moment, adding to the warmth that runs throughout the release.

What I particularly like about this EP is that it never feels as though it’s trying too hard. There’s a sincerity to these songs that makes them easy to spend time with, and the focus remains firmly on the worship rather than anything unnecessary getting in the way.

Weems has described the songs as “prayers in the form of melodies”, and that feels like a fitting way to sum up the whole release. His heart for the local church comes through clearly, and there’s a lovely sense of space within these songs for listeners to reflect, worship and make the words their own.

*I Will Follow* is a warm, engaging collection that feels both personal and congregational. With some beautiful moments along the way, Charles Weems has delivered an EP that serves its purpose well, creating space for worship from beginning to end.
