Review: Triple O
The Overnight Garden

Feb 23 2011

The Overnight Garden is the new mixtape from London based urban rapper Triple O, who describes the release as "A relationship EP put out especially for Valentines Day".

For those of you who might not know who Triple O is, here is a small insight. Triple O is one of the UK's most electrifying emcess and is considered to be a pioneer in his field and a connoisseur of this craft, as well as being a talented writer/singer/writer he is a youth leader at his local church in Dagenham, East London. As well as this eight track EP, Triple O released his 'Come Home' single in December 2010 and in February 2009 he released the 'G 2 G - Grime to Gospel' EP. On top of all that he has shared a stage with the Grammy nominated US Hip-Hop sensation Lecrae.

As Triple O said, this EP is about relationships, a relationship with our God, our friends and loved one, or a loved one to be. The lyrics all are very positive about these aspects of life, and the lyrics are the strongest part of the EP.

The music is as solid as anything out there at the moment, with great beats and catchy melodies, but the biggest thing that jumped out for me was the interesting lyrics. For example Triple O talks about relationships in his opening track Overview with the great lines "Guys mess with her heart thinking that it's fun, If you're not gonna pursue then don't lead her on, Why are we in a hurry to get things wrong?, Why are we in a hurry to hear that song? You know, Duh duh-duh duh (wedding theme)".

The great lyrics don't just stop there, in 'We Can Be More (Breathe Easy Remix)' Triple O sings "Soul food, daily bread, Out poured from the source where the text is red, Do it by the book and by His will, In it for the long run and not for the thrill". This is another great piece of poetry talking about how in all our relationships it's important to have God at the center, and doing things as God intended.

This EP is up there with the latest Guvna B release; both of these artist are pushing the Christian Hip-Hop Rap scene forward at an amazing pace. The future is bright for Triple O, a nice guy, with great lyrics put together on a very good solid EP, brilliant work.
