Paul Bell Marks Haiti Earthquake Anniversary With 'While We Sleep Tonight ' Single

Jan 12 2012

Singer/songwriter Paul Bell releases his new single 'While We Sleep Tonight' today, 12th January 2012, to coincide with the 2 year anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti, which Paul says was the spark of inspiration for the song. Proceeds from the single will be donated to the work of Tearfund in Haiti.

The single is taken from the album of the same name, released last year, and explores the issues of suffering in the world. On 12th January 2010, at 4.53pm local time a catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. It entrenched poverty, making over a million people homeless, as well as claiming more than 200,000 lives. Many people across the world responded to the disaster with thoughts, prayers and money.

"I remember making breakfast on the morning after the earthquake hit", Says Paul. "I had the radio on and the news was breaking. The good night's sleep I'd had in my comfortable bed was hard to reconcile with what had just happened in Haiti."

Tearfund and Sheffield-based photographer Richard Hanson gave permission for his images, taken in the aftermath of the quake in Haiti and used in an exhibition commissioned by Tearfund, to be used in the video to accompany the song.

The single can be downloaded from iTunes now
