Ooberfuse Record Electro-Pop Version Of '27 Million' & Headline Anti-Trafficking Concert

Jul 04 2012

Electro-pop band Ooberfuse will headline a concert in Grimsby this weekend, 7th July 2012, to highlight the issue of human trafficking. The band have also recorded an electro-pop cover of the song '27 Million', first recorded by Matt Redman and LZ7, to help draw attention to the cause.

'27 Million' reached number 12 in the UK charts earlier this year when Matt Redman and LZ7 combined to record a song in support of the A21 Campaign which aims to combat human trafficking and slavery. The single was played on BBC Radio 1, the UK's biggest national radio station.

Ooberfuse front-woman Cherrie Anderson said, "We are thrilled to have been asked to play this gig. Our aim is to help expose the horrific facts behind human trafficking and at the same time highlight that there are ways to make a difference."

"According to UNICEF 1.2 million children are trafficked every year" adds fellow band member Hal St John. "The risks are increased around major sporting events like the forthcoming 2012 Olympics. The Anti-Trafficking Alliance for example have evidence from previous sporting events that suggests a surge in the number of visitors to a country can lead to an increased demand for prostitution - and an increase in trafficking to meet this demand."

The concert, organised by the ONE Youth Partnership in Grimsby, is part of a wider initiative of Churches Together in North East Lincolnshire's Week Against Human Trafficking which runs from 1st to 8th July.
