One To Watch: Amie Aitken

Oct 08 2014

Welcome to the first in our new series called 'One To Watch'. This month we look at the talented singer Amie Aitken.

With some fabulous shoes to wear and many professional plates to spin, there is so much more to Amie Aitken than just music...

Having started out just over a year ago, Amie has catapulted her music career off to a strong start. After completing one small acoustic tour around Scotland, she gathered together a small but loyal fanbase who helped her to fund the recording of her debut EP "Audience Of One" - produced by Sound Consultancy

This year she has supported artists from the USA and UK including Ian White and one of the UK's brightest talents, Philippa Hanna. With a commendable combination of artistic creativity, diligent organisation and unwavering determination Amie has built up a loyal network of supporters who have helped her to release her new music for all to enjoy. Influenced by artists such as Jimmy Needham, Sara Bareilles and Emeli Sande, Amie brings together a blend of catchy pop-soul melodies and intentionally thought-provoking, relatable lyrics.

Sharing her faith is a vital part of Amie’s musical endeavors Her passion for encouraging and inspiring a younger generation belies the heart of every performance. Having spent some time in foster care herself and having several years of experience of working with vulnerable children, her mission now is to ensure that each individual knows their worth and potential. Amie partnered with Home For Good to help her take this message across the country on her 2014 tour, following the EP release last November.

Amie says "When I imagine how different my life would be if I were still in foster care, I'm so grateful for the opportunities and the life I've been given. There are so many children in the UK who still need a home for good and I believe the Church needs to be part of the solution."

Amie balances her music ministry with her new role as Children & Families worker in a local Scottish church and finds time for tea and cake with friends whenever she can.

"What jumps out is how strong Amie's vocals are. They sound fresh, sweet and have such a wonderful tone. She can hit those high notes in this song with ease. There is so much potential in this brilliant songwriter. As a debut EP you can see what Amie has to offer, but there is part of me thinking there is so much more to come."
