Tim Alford [dweeb] Blogs From Madrid Gig

Tim Alford from [dweeb] sent Louder Than The Music this exclusive blog from the bands recent gig in Madrid.

Hey Everyone,

Just popping in a little blog entry to tell you about our recent trip to play at Contracorriente (Against the Flow) in Madrid, Spain.

It all began with an extremely early morning, 3.15am to be precise. That is not a fun time for the alarm to go off. Dave comes to my door at about 3.45am, it's raining. Stuff goes in the van and we're off to Gatwick. Here's my advice for you next time you go to Gatwick airport in the morning... Go to EAT and buy a breakfast muffin... YUM!

A couple hours later and we arrive in Madrid where it's 36 degrees C! A touch different to the clouds and rain we had just left. Bit of a bummer though was that some dodgy geezer nicked Matt's watch out of the front pocket of his bag.

So anyway we pick up our luggage and meet two lovely folks, Ana and Jeff, who take us out from some traditional Spanish lunch, it was gooooooooooood! Yum x 2.

After that tasty treat we headed to the venue for the sound check. A few synth / vocoder issues later and that's finished, time for some chilling in the sun... well, shade actually. We were headlining and stuff was over running considerably, so we're sitting there chatting about cutting songs, wondering if people are people gonna leave - that kind of stuff.

Eventually we get on stage and everyone goes crazy! The Spanish audience were mad for it from start to finish, big respect to them for sticking it out to the last. It was a great show, the language barrier didn't seem to be to much of a problem, we were getting on just fine. Matt's synth broke which sucked a bit, but apart from that it was a fantastic show.

The theme of Contracorriente was water, so I decided to chat about how Jesus talks about being our living water. We've all got a thirst in us my freinds, and we can try to quench it in all sorts of ways, but the fact is Jesus is the only one who can quench our thirst, he is the only one who can satisfy us, he is the only way for us to find fulfilment in our lives - any other way never lasts, we soon get thirsty again.

So after the show we meet some of the audience, take a few photos, sign a few CDs and indulge in more than a few kisses on the cheek continental-styleee! After that it's Tapas time. Oh yes, proper Spanish Tapas at midnight... all good. Yum x 3. Sadly Dave had a few vomiting issues that night, but the rest of us were fine so he probably just needs to man-up to be fair. Just kidding Dave!

We fly back the next day, my guitar case gets smashed on the plane, we get stuck in traffic on the M25 and get home about 7.30pm, but it was all worth it for an awesome weekend. Hopefully we'll be back next year!

See you soon dudes,

Tim, [dweeb]
