Interview: Stephen Christian

Nov 30 2017

Former Anberlin frontman Stephen Christian released his new solo album, 'Wildfires', earlier this year. LTTM caught up with Stephen to find out more about the album after Anberlin was disbanded.

Tell us a little bit about Wildfires?

It is a compilation of songs that I wrote in mid 2014-2016 for Word Publishing. After awhile, I realized that these songs were my story and I felt impressed to release them under my name. My friend Riley Friesen produced the record in Nashville in October of 2016.

Which is your favorite track on the album and why?

It changes every day, right now it’s “Wide Eyed Wonder,” for me the lyrics stand out and it’s exactly how I am feeling right now, again.

If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be?

John Mark McMillan

How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?

Forward thinking and yet accessible; I am still heavily inspired by Brit Pop, it will always be my favorite style of music.

How would you define success in your career?

In my solo Worship career I would define success as lives touched and people changed, encouraged to live a more excellent life.

What is your favorite album of all time?

Grace by Jeff Buckley and Louder than Bombs by the Smiths. Tie.

You're stuck on an island, it's hot, and you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your mp3 player. What track is it?

John Coltrane - Love Supreme, “Acknowledgement”

What does the next year hold for Stephen Christian?

Tour/Travel/Write/Record and have a third child with my beautiful wife Julia.
