Blog: Momentum - I'm Back
So another Momentum has passed. Spending 5 days at a large Christian festival, in a tent with some of your best friends ever, has its up and down moments, but is an amazing time. I wouldn't want to spend my summers any other way. For all who don't know "Momentum" is a festival run by Soul Survivor for students, 20 somethings and 30 somethings. I'll take you through a general day at Momentum: You get woken up to the sound of other people getting out of their tents, have some breakfast and head out to the 9:30am seminar meetings on various topics, from worship to money management, leadership skills to Injustice. These last around an hour with gives you a spare 30 mins to get to the big tent where everyone meets for worship and a bible study. Jo Saxton led the Bible study this year on Moses and David & Goliath, where she discussed dealing with your own personal issues, dealing with your giants.
After this meeting and ministry time the stomach is rumbling and it's lunch time. Everyone heads to their tents to light their small gas cookers, which you can just about boil water on, and cook some basic yet yummy food. Then there are more seminars in various venues at 2:30pm and 4:00pm then you're back again for tea. Before you have had time to wash up it's time for the 7:00pm main 'Big Top' meeting which is led by Andy Croft.
After this meeting "The Afterhours" venues are in full swing, from "Cafe Uno" with its coffee and Jazz/funk music, to a quieter acoustic Cafe called "Soul Action" and a venue to watch all the latest films with your friends. By this time you are ready to go to bed and start the day all over again.
Every day is packed with various seminars and meeting to go to, which can tire you out, which led to me now feeling ill. I have what I like to call "Festival Flu", this is down to lack of sleep and tiring myself out. Mr Tim Hughes did a fantastic job of leading worship this year, playing some songs from his latest album. Talking of Tim Hughes, it reminds me of the time, 5 years ago now, at Soul Survivor Tim had a new guitar, a Rickenbacker, one that I have always wanted. So I went up to have a closer look at it. I asked Tim, who was getting ready to lead, "How much did it cost?" He replied "I can't remember", then I said to him "Can I have a photo?". He looked at me and said "of course". So he stands there ready for his big picture moment until I say "ohh no Tim, a picture of the guitar". Being the pro he is, he got the guitar and I took a photo of Mr Hughes and his amazing guitar.
So Momentum was an amazing year, a great time to meet the power of God and enjoy being with your friends.
