The End of The Bands

Nov 16 2009

It seems that 2009 has become the year of the 'End of the bands'. It only dawned on me when I read the very sad news recently that the mighty Electralyte had decided to go their separate ways. I loved, and I mean really loved, their amazing album 'Scratch Beneath The Surface'. I really thought we had found a band with enough quality to really push the boundaries of Christian bands to another level. Why did they not? Probably for factors we will never know about, maybe it just wasn't their time or maybe people didn't grasp their last album like I did.

2009 also saw the end of the biggest British Christian band in Delirious. Enough has already been said about that via band interviews and articles on LTTM, yet it's still a large shame and hasn't really sunk in.

Another few bands finished this year as well. Cheltenham based rock band Quench said their final goodbyes at Greenbelt this year, all moving onto different projects. We also saw the end of OneHundredHours, who have been pushing the boundaries of Christian music by playing in some interesting gig venues. It was only last week I was having a conversation with someone regarding how few bands are now coming forward and more solo singers/worship leaders are releasing albums instead.

And now we find out that The Band With No Name will depart in 2010, again another British band say their goodbyes. A band that has done so much in the Christian Hip Hop World, I hope to see these guys doing stuff individually for God.

It's very sad to see these bands leave us, but hopefully 2010 will bring us some amazing new talented bands, ready to push the boundaries and bring amazing songs with top quality albums that we will be singing for the next few years.
