Blog: Happy New Year
So here we are, a new year and a new decade. Happy New Year from Louder Than The Music to all our visitors. We hope you enjoyed your Christmas celebrations and are starting to recover from all that over eating!
At the start of a new year it's often nice to look back on the events of the previous one, and what a year 2009 was for us here. LTTM was launched early in the year and has already grown bigger than we expected. Thank you to everyone who has supported us as we got this site up and running. We've received some really great comments from many of you, and all of your encouragement has been very much appreciated. In our first year we have seen nearly a thousand articles published on this website as we continue in our endeavor to keep music fans informed about everything they need to know in the world of Christian music.
Some of the biggest names in Christian music released some excellent albums in 2009, but one of the highlights for me personally was discovering some of the smaller, independent, lesser known artists who, even without the backing of a major record label, are managing to produce some incredible music. I often find that the talent shines through these artists even more strongly as they have to work so hard to earn a living through their music. I really hope that LTTM has helped some of these artists get known by a broader range of fans, and I hope that like me, you've enjoyed discovering some of them for the first time. Some of my favourite discoveries of the year were Esther Alexander, Galactus Jack and Aaron David Frith - three superbly talented artists who I hope we hear a lot more from in the coming months and years.
Other highlights for me last year were interviewing Martin Smith, as he talked about the pending break up of Delirious. Talking of that, the final ever Delirious show was an unbelievable night tinged with sadness. But Delirious weren't the only band to call it a day in 2009, no fewer than five British bands came to an end. Let's hope that 2010 sees a new generation of bands start to emerge and take up the mantle.
So as we look ahead to a new year, LTTM can promise you some exciting new developments on the website. The second phase of the site will launch later this year, with plenty of interactive elements to allow you to get more involved. We don't want to give too much away yet, but expect a forum to discuss music with like minded individuals, a place for your own profile and of course your chance to comment on everything going on. We also have some exciting new competitions, interviews and articles for you to look forward to.
We hope you stick around because 2010 is going to be Louder Than The Music.
Dave
