Ross Walters Writes Song for Fan Struggling With Illness

Jul 07 2020

A promise to write a song based on the name of anyone who contributes to a GoFundMe campaign blossoms into the first single release of singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Ross Walters new LP. Heather will be released on July 1, 2020.

Writing a catchy song based on a girl’s name may seem like a formulaic attempt at pop success but the song came from a very sincere and organic place. “I wanted to fulfill the task of writing a song for this individual who contributed to my project,” Walters says, “but her story drew me in and the song began to have more depth to it than the fun little ditty l was planning to write. She was struggling with the emotions that come with a negative medical report but, at the same time, was having these incredible dreams and visions of heaven and the afterlife. Like many people of faith she was wrestling with this tension of being afraid of the process of dying but not afraid of death itself.”

Heather is one song out of ten that Ross brought into the ZKeys Studio in Nashville in April of 2018. The song features the formidable talents of Danny Gottlieb on drums (Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Pat Matheny), Viktor Krauss on bass (James Taylor, Sheryl Crow), Todd Lombardo guitar (Vince Gill, Taylor Swift), Tyler Summers background vocals, and Kenny Zarider on keyboards.

In September of 2020 Ross Walters will be releasing My Destiny, an LP of original compositions inspired by diverse influences including blues, jazz, reggae, rock, pop, Motown, bluegrass, and Celtic. Produced and arranged by Ross with co-production and engineering help from Kenny Zarider of ZKeys Studio

Ross Walters is in his 4th decade as a road and studio musician. He has toured and recorded with Donna Summer, Boyz II Men and a host of others. In addition to singing and writing, Ross plays saxophone, flute, clarinet, harmonica, and keyboards. My Destiny will represent his 5th solo album.
