Interview: Mike Anderson
Mike Anderson, a veteran singer/songwriter with a long list of accomplishments over his musical career, talks to Louder Than The Music about his new song 'The Love of Jesus'.
For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?
I started out as a drummer in a band when I was 9 years old. The bass player and leader of the group owned a set of drums, but the drummer had quit. He offered me the chance to audition for the group, which was great news to me, “I’d actually get to play a real set of drums!†I’d been practicing on Mom’s pots and pans driving her crazy. Both of us were ecstatic when I passed the audition and was the official drummer for “The Spydersâ€. Later on, I bought the drums for a whopping $85, paid in installments to the bass player. It took a long time to pay off the drums at $5 a gig, which was what I made at the time, but I loved every minute. Later on my Dad brought in a Sears flattop and that really started my music career.
Tell us about your new single 'The Love of Jesus' and what the inspiration behind it was?
I wanted to describe the incredible love that Jesus has for all his children in this song.
Do you have any plans to release more music in the near future?
I would like to continue to write and release new music. As a matter of fact I’m working on a follow up single to The Love of Jesus.
What message would you like people to take from your music?
God is Love
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
I love all genres of music. I have done country, bluegrass, adult contemporary and more so it’s hard to point to a certain style. Some of my favorite singers are Allison Krauss, Michael W Smith and Jason Crabb, just to name a few.
If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?
Gerald Crabb, Michael W Smith or Bill & Gloria Gaither. All are incredible writers.
How would you define success in your career as an artist?
I really feel I’m a success when people tell me that my music gives them hope or reason to carry on through the message they might get from a song.
What is your favorite album of all time?
Marty Stuart - Soul’s Chapel just one that came to my mind
