Interview: No Lazy Dad

Dec 26 2025

Gospel Afrobeat artist and family-focused creator No Lazy Dad talks to Louder Than The Music about his inspiring new single, 'Glory of the Lord', as we delve into the background of this exciting artist.

For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?

My name is Kelvin Edewor, also known by my music and creative brand No Lazy Dad. I officially began my music journey in 2003, long before my transition into gospel music. In my earlier years, I was a secular artist performing under the name Baron-G D’Icon, and I had the privilege of working within Nigeria’s vibrant music scene.

Around 2010, I collaborated with producer LeriQ, who at that time was the producer to Afrobeat superstar Burna Boy, and I also worked with respected music producers such as Kelly Lyon, Obodo Simon (Onos Bliss), and Jimoh Wasiu, who I still collaborate with today.

In 2014, I relocated to the United Kingdom to pursue my master’s degree, and that season marked a profound turning point in my life. It was during that time that my walk with Jesus Christ became deeply personal and transformative. I could no longer reconcile my faith with making secular music, and I began to sense a clear calling to create a new kind of gospel sound; one that carries the message of Christ while embracing contemporary Afrobeat rhythms.

Today, my music reflects that journey: rooted in faith, rich in scripture, and delivered in a sound that speaks to this generation.

Tell us about your new single 'Glory of the Lord' and the inspiration behind it.

Glory of the Lord was birthed from a deeply spiritual moment. I attend Living Faith Church, and during one Sunday service, the pastor sang an old song that stirred something within me. Later that day, I sang a chorus inspired by the song to my father-in-law. He looked at me and said, “Son, change the chorus to ‘The Glory of the Lord has come down,’ in line with John 1:14.”

That scripture; “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory” became the foundation of the song.

At the same time, I was carrying a quiet conviction. Since 2014, I had not officially released a song solely for Jesus, and I felt the Holy Spirit prompting me to step fully into my assignment. That season opened my eyes to how God wanted to use my music: to blend scripture, positive affirmation, worship, and prayer into songs that strengthen believers.

Glory of the Lord is not just a song, it’s a declaration that God’s glory is already here, available to all through Christ.

Do you have any plans to release more music in the near future?

Yes, absolutely. I have many unreleased songs, and I am constantly working on new music. For me, music and family-focused content creation are not hobbies, they are my ministry. This is the assignment God has given me for this season, and I am committed to stewarding it with excellence and consistency.

Listeners can expect more Gospel Afrobeats, faith-filled lyrics, and songs that speak to both spiritual growth and everyday life.

What message would you like people to take from your music?

The core message of my music is this: the glory of God has already come down through Jesus Christ. Everything we could ever need; peace, healing, provision, identity has already been given to us in Him.

In Glory of the Lord, I sang “Anything when I want, I done get am,” which simply means “Everything I desire, I already have.” It’s a declaration of faith and understanding, not materialism.

I want people to walk away with confidence in Christ, a deeper understanding of their position in God, and the belief that 2026 is a year of understanding and right standing with God.

How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?

My sound is best described as Gospel Afrobeats; a fusion of Afrobeat rhythms, dance energy, and gospel truth. I’m heavily influenced by African music culture, dance, dancehall and contemporary Afrobeat sounds.

I strongly believe there is a generation of young Christians who genuinely love God but also want music that feels joyful, vibrant, and current. My goal is to show that serving God doesn’t mean losing your joy or rhythm but you can worship and still vibe.

If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?

At the moment, I don’t have a specific songwriter in mind, but I’m very intentional about collaboration. I’ve worked with Melvin Wonder, a young gospel artist, because I believe strongly in investing in the next generation of Christian creatives.

Any future collaboration would be rooted in shared values, faith, and a desire to ensure that young people feel seen, heard, and spiritually supported through gospel music.

How would you define success in your career as an artist?

Success for me is not numbers alone. I will consider my career successful when both the young and the old connect with my music, and when my songs lead people to love God more deeply.

If my music can make people dance, smile, worship, and grow spiritually at the same time, then I know I’m walking in purpose.

What is your favorite album of all time?

I don’t have a single all-time favorite album, but Sinach’s Way Maker holds a special place in my heart. That song and project carried me and millions of others through the uncertainty of the global pandemic in 2019. It remains a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness. I also love Goodness of God by Cece Winans.

You’re stuck on an island, it’s hot, and you only have enough battery life to listen to one song. What track is it?

(Laughs) I would need a lot of faith and hope in that situation so it would definitely be “Goodness of God” by Cece Winans.

What does the next year hold for you?

The next year holds testimonies, many of them. I see growth, impact, and lives transformed. I believe God is positioning me for global reach, including a community of millions who genuinely love Jesus.

I also believe this is the season where I will be recognized as one of Canada’s leading gospel creators, not for personal glory, but so that more people can experience Jesus fully. Above all, I’m expecting mind-blowing testimonies.
