Mar 24 2026

International group Makoma will be performing live in London on April 11, 2026 for the first time in 25 years. Makoma is internationally recognized for their energetic performances and their unique blend of afro-pop, hip-hop, and contemporary sounds, which has captivated audiences across Europe, Africa, and beyond.

Makoma is a musical group formed by a family of talented musicians. The group has won over an international audience thanks to its energetic performances and inspiring songs. Over the years, Makoma has become a symbol of urban music in Africa and across the world.

Founded by Tutala Makoma in 1992, the group began performing publicly in 1995. The family settled in the Netherlands after a stay in Germany, and
the group then adopted the name Makoma, derived from their family name.

The group is composed of six siblings: Nathalie, Annie, Pengani, Tutala, Duma, and Martin Makoma, accompanied by rapper Patrick Badine, who joined them in the late 1990s.

The group achieved immense success with the albums Nzambe Na Bomoyi (1999) and Mokonzi Na Bakonzi (2002), winning several accolades such as best African group at the Kora awards and the MTV Africa music awards in 2002, as well as the south pacific award in 2005.

Makoma is much more than just a band: it's a story of family, faith, creativity, and resilience. From their debut under the name "Nouveau Testament" to their triumph at the Kora awards and their grand return in 2025, their journey embodies one of the most influential chapters of gospel music in the African diaspora.

Their return to the stage promises to be a powerful moment, rich in emotion and hope for an entire generation of their audience.
