Indie Rock Band The Race Announce 'FAMILY' EP
Reading indie rock band The Race release their four-track EP FAMILY on 19th October 2026, together with its previously unheard closing track and new single, “Where You Go I Go.”
The EP brings together “Best Is Yet To Come,” “D of E” and “Family Tree” with one final new song. Across the four tracks, the band write about the people closest to them: old friends, ageing parents, children growing up, and the difficult balance between holding on and letting go.
These songs were written after a long break from the band. The members of The Race now have ten children between them, and FAMILY reflects the lives they returned with. The guitars are heavier and more spacious, but the songs remain direct, melodic and grounded in real experiences.
“Where You Go I Go” is the record’s final chapter. It is about watching children move into the world on their own terms, knowing that parents cannot protect them from everything, and promising that they will not face it alone.
“Where You Go I Go” explores the vulnerability of watching your children step into the world on their own terms. Its repeated promise is simple: however far they go, and however difficult life becomes, they will not be alone.
The arrangement starts in a more exposed place and gathers weight as it moves, turning a private reassurance into the EP’s closing statement. It completes the thread running through FAMILY: love cannot take every difficulty away, but it can give people somewhere solid to stand.
FAMILY moves between shoegaze weight, dream-pop space and widescreen indie rock. The songs are patient enough to let the details build, but they still land with clear choruses and direct lyrics. It is a record about ordinary family life made on a larger musical scale.
The Race formed in Reading in 2004. During their first run, the band released two albums, toured across the UK and Europe, played Reading Festival and Truck Festival, and recorded sessions for BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and XFM.
After a long break, the band regrouped in 2024. The point was not to recreate their twenties. It was to make music that reflected the lives they had now. FAMILY grew from that: four songs about friendship, parenthood, faith, ageing and the ties between generations.
All four tracks were written, recorded and produced by The Race.
