Grammy Awards For Switchfoot, Israel Houghton And BeBe & CeCe Winans
The winners of the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards were announced last night, 13th February 2011, in Los Angeles. The big winners in the Christian music categories were Switchfoot, who won Best Rock Or Rap Gospel Album for their album 'Hello Hurricane', and Israel Houghton who won Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album for 'Love God Love People'.
The Best Gospel Performance award went to BeBe & CeCe Winans for the track 'Grace' from their album 'Still'. The winner of Best Gospel Song went to Kirk Whalum for 'It's What I Do', taken from the album 'The Gospel According To Jazz Chapter III', beating off stiff competition from Chris Tomlin, Gungor and Amy Grant.
Switchfoot celebrated their first ever Grammy Award, with lead singer Jon Foreman saying simply, "Grammy!!? Wow... Thankful" on his Twitter page. For Israel Houghton it was Grammy Award number four and the second year in a row that he won Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album following 2010's award for his 'The Power Of One' album. Responding on Twitter, Israel wrote, "So grateful. Just won Grammy #4 for LOVE GOD LOVE PEOPLE. Thanks to everyone for the love and supportive congrats we've gotten. Love u."
