Review: Reality LA
Vol 2

Jun 29 2011

I have probably said this before, and I'm sure you have read it, but isn't there a lot of churches now releasing high quality albums of songs that are impacting their local church? Reality LA is no different, but what is very different with this release is that it's a free download on their website and also from our friends Come&Live.

When you download the album via their website, all they say is "With these recordings, we hope to make music that is modern and fresh while lyrically remaining faithful to Scripture. We hope that these songs bless you and encourage you to worship Jesus Rev 4:11." Without much fuss and hype these guys have decided to bless people with strong worship songs, you can also download the chord sheets as well, so you can learn to play and use them in times of worship in your church.

Without wishing this to be a negative comment, this album does have an obvious soft rock worship sound, that has been done a few times before. As said this isn't a negative comment, as when this style is done well and creatively with strong worship lyrics it can be great, and this collection of songs are very strong. Not using obvious over used so called worship lyrics, Reality LA have managed to create some really soulful heartfelt worship songs. Listen to Great Is Our God, the simplicity of it makes you just want to close your eyes and let the lyrics and music wash over you, beautiful song.

Another standout moment of the album is the tracks All Creation, which does have a bit of a Coldplay and Owl City feel to it, but with honest truthful biblical lyrics "We glorify, God Creation, your Kingdom reigns... Be Glorified". Even if the track is only just over a minute long, there is something truly stunning about the atmospheric In Weakness I Cry Out, I just wish it was longer, I really think this song is well worth doing again with extra words and music.

These are a bunch of songs put together as an album, not for major worldwide release but as a tool to be used in worship for anybody who wants to use them. This is the sound coming out of one church in LA and what a wonderful sound of praise to God. Amazing stuff, some really great songs to get closer to the Maker of everything.
