Kids Praise Party 6

Jul 12 2011

Kids Praise Party 6 is the sixth album in this series of compilation albums mixing together new and old songs of worship for kids. This has always been a popular series that is being used in our Sunday school times in church. But does the album live up to the high standard already produced from the first five albums?

It's simple: Yes. You will know from reading my reviews about kids worship albums, I can come across as a grumpy 28 year old. But usually by the end of the album I really enjoy it. This album is really no different. If you want party praise songs, look no further than this album.

The opening track from Becky and Nick Drake is the perfect start, with the huge tempo beat and the la la la la la's that are a bit too catchy, I was singing them all day in work. Yes God is Here is the perfect start. From that rock pop start, the album moves quickly to the hip hop Doug Horley Hi-5. I wasn't keen on this at first, but my dear friends this is actually not too bad. C'mon Everybody sounds like a 70s disco pop song, but the ones that get everybody onto the dance floor at a wedding. '66 books, 1 Author' has a big hint of sounding like a mix between a Goldfrapp dance track and a lot like the song 'Spirit in the Sky', very interesting.

We then move onto one of the most played songs around at the moment, Our God, the Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin classic. This is very much a dance version of the song, something different, and I'm sure a lot of people will love it, but not for me.

The album moves away from the high beat, party praise songs into a slower more reflective song. Holy Spirit is a very beautiful track with a chorus of "You're the one who gives us all we need, In Your Name and Your power we believe". A really strong intimate worship song.

This is one album that caught me off guard. Actually the cheese level that I thought I might find on the album was kept to a minimum. This isn't an album for people who want to hear songs similar to what Matt Redman and Hillsong are doing. But actually the happy praise worship of this album is great for kids and Sunday school teachers, and for families together to worship God with some great upbeat party praise songs.
