Review: Ali Crompton
Mountains Shake

Sep 27 2011

This is Ali Crompton's first EP release since his debut album 'Leave A Footprint' which was released back in 2005. Over years of playing guitar himself and building up his reputation, Ali got involved with Worship Academy where he received teaching from people such as Chris Bowater, Andy Bromley, Duane White, Richard Lewis and Charlie and Jill Le Blanc.

Ali worked with Mark Pierce from Stompbox Studios on this EP, which is called Mountains Shake. "I was keen to try and keep a raw feel to the songs and I think Mark really captured not only the sound I was after but also the heart behind them" he says, and this is a perfect way to describe this EP, raw and passionate. This is no more obvious than in opening rock track 'Absolute', which has a Yfriday and Quench feel about it. The Altar has a much gentler pace about it as Ali sings "I lay down my life on the altar, bring a living sacrifice... I live my life to serve my Lord". This gentle outcry is one of the strongest on the EP and a great honest tune. Mountains Shake has a very early Delirious? and U2 vibe to it, think Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble combined with a slower version of Where The Streets Have No Name. This is a very good song about what God can do.

It's great to hear what songs and sounds are coming out of the local churches around the UK and this is a good collection of tracks from the local church in East Yorkshire. Well worth checking out and the EP cover is very stylish! Also, the remix of 'The Altar' is well worth listening to if you like chilled dance music.
