Ahead of the album, the band have released their lead single called 'God's Not Dead (Like A Lion)'. The song was written by popular songwriter Daniel Bashta, and is a great worship track. But the big talking point of this single is the fact that it sees Newsboys front man Michael Tait reunited with his former DC Talk band mate Kevin Max as they share the vocals, and it's a truly great thing to hear.
Let's make a big crazy statement here. If this song doesn't become a classic Christian Rock Anthem, I'll eat my hat. This uplifting song just stirs so much inside you, you just want to join in and to go out and change the world. Some people might already know this song as it has appeared on many albums, including the Passion Awakening album last year with David Crowder Band adding their own style to the song. But hearing the Newsboys do their version adds something a bit more 'stadium rock' to it.
Starting with a guitar riff, the song explodes into life when the thumping drums burst onto the song. Michael Tait sings the verse with his distinctive voice, identifying straight away that the Newsboys are back sounding bigger and even better than before. Yet the line that jumps out so powerfully and most affirming to me is "My God's not dead, He's surly alive, He's living on the inside roaring like a lion". Yes, Amen! In the chorus you can also hear the unique voice of Kevin Max, and hearing those voices together all the way through the song brings back those DC Talk memories. It's actually really nice to hear them both on this song, great work guys.
This is a great worship song, done the Newsboys way. Great drums, rocking guitars, great vocals, hopefully the same will be said of their new album.
