I'm a big fan of the voice that is Kari Jobe. Always have been, from the moment I heard Kari's self titled album from 2009 I knew this was a voice well worth keeping and eye on to see what she releases next. Kari's debut album featured songs co-written with Chris Tomlin, Paul Baloche, Mia Fieldes, Ed Cash and Klaus Kuehn. The success of the album led to a New Artist of The Year Dove Award nomination and a featured performance during the 2010 Dove Awards ceremony, which saw her take home two Awards.

Kari who leads worship at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas is putting the finishing touches to her second full length album that has been produced by Ed Cash, the album is expected to be released in January 2012. Yet for a quick sneaky peak Kari has released a song from the album as a first single called 'We Are'

The song starts with what can only be described as a twinkling piano, and a sort of snare led drum beat. Of course one of the main attractions to Kari's music is her voice and this single proves she is back with a bang. The song isn't necessary a big dramatic entrance back to the music scene, but it shows that what Kari did with her first album she can do again.
In the chorus Kari sings "We are the light of the world, We are the city on the Hill, We are the Light of the World we gotta we gotta let the light shine". As you can tell from the chorus, this is a whole song about how we as God's people are a light for Him in this dark, and at times horrible, world. The song is an obvious radio friendly single, with the verse, chorus and mid section all coming together to complete this brilliant first single.
The new single isn't just a carbon copy of what Kari did on the first album, but if I'm being honest it could easily have fitted onto that album. For me, this single has everything, great voice, lyrics and a strong melody wrapped up with some good musicianship. Hopefully there will be more tracks like this on Kari's new album, but until then check out 'We Are' - it's a good little tune.
