Matt Redman Wins ASCAP Award At Prestigious London Ceremony
British worship leader Matt Redman was awarded a prestigious ASCAP Award at the 31st annual event of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on 2nd November 2011. Matt received the award for the song 'Our God', which he co-wrote with Chris Tomlin, Jonas Myrin, and Jesse Reeves.
Incredibly the song was judged to be one of most impacting songs at American radio in 2010 by a British writer, and saw Matt join many household names from the mainstream music industry at the awards ceremony. Other artists celebrated during the evening were U2 for 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For', Paul McCartney for 'Come Together', Taio Cruz for 'Dynamite' and Coldplay for 'Viva La Vida'.
"It was such a special evening," says Matt, "and honestly a bit surreal to be invited there alongside all these influential songwriters I’ve looked up to for years. The highlight for me was the video clip of 'Our God' they showed as we walked up to receive the award. It was amazing to hear that song of worship being played in an environment I would never have dreamt of hearing it in."
'Our God' was first recorded on the Passion 'Awakening' live album in 2010, also appearing on Chris Tomlin's own album 'And If Our God Is For Us'. The song has also been quickly finding a place in many worship services around the world, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Song, leading to Matt attending the Grammy Awards ceremony in February. Matt previously won an ASCAP Award in 2009 when he was awarded Christian Songwriter of the Year.
