Interview: Decyfer Down
Following Grammy and Dove Award nominations, a trio of best-selling major label albums and seven chart-topping singles, Decyfer Down is about to release their new album 'The Other Side Of Darkness'. LTTM spoke to the band to find out more.
Tell us a little bit about this new album of yours?
The album is called “The Other Side of Darkness.” It is being released on April 1. It’s our first independent record, which gave us a lot of freedom in the process of creating the record. We are super excited about this release.
Which is your favourite track on the album and why?
“Nothing More” - The song is about having toxins and struggles that we deal with every single day, whether it’s a bad relationship or some sort of thing in our lives that is weighing us down and hindering our relationship with God and His ultimate plan for our life. We want “nothing more” than to sever toxic ties and to move forward with God.
If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?
Probably someone like Eddie Vedder, or any of those early 90’s guys that had a big influence on us as a band.
Do you prefer playing live or working in the studio?
Playing live
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
Groove-heavy hard rock. Influences - Bands like Sevendust and all of the early 90’s Rock bands.
How would you define success in your career as a band?
I think being able to actually keep this thing going for the past 10 years is a pretty big success by itself.
What is your favorite album of all time?
Pearl Jam - Ten
I’d MacGyver my mp3 player into an electronic motor, attach it to a boat, and go home.
What does the next year hold for Decyfer Down?
The record release in a few weeks (April 1) is probably the biggest thing going right now. Then touring to support it throughout the year.
