Interview: Tim Alford- [Dweeb]

Feb 11 2009

Louder Than The Music have had honour and the great oppertunity to speak to Tim Alford one of the band members of the great British band [dweeb]. Hopefully you will find out some interesting information about the band, so take a seat, sit back and relax and learn more about this amazing band .........

1. How did The band members all meet?
We met at Nexus, a music a bible college in Coventry. We got together thinking that [dweeb] would only be a bit of fun for the time we were studying - but it's five years later and we're still going!

2. What was the inspiration behind your last album?
Lyrically I tend to write about experiences; lessons learned, struggles, things that frustrate or excite - that kind of thing. So there are no real generic songs, they all come from whatever is really making me think at that current time, so there's a lot of passion in those tunes.

3. What's your song writing process?
Our writing process is very much a collaborative one. Someone will come with a core idea, from as little as just a guitar part to as much as a basic construct for a whole tune. We'll then take those ideas and construct a song from them together. Sometimes it's a long haul because we try to write stuff that we're all loving, but we also write the best songs that way.

4. What's on your I pod at the moment?
Right at this moment I'm listening to Friendly Fires - awesome! On the electro front I'm well in to a band called Sneaky Sound System right now. I'm getting really in to my Electro these days, you'll certainly be hearing much more of that sound coming through on the next [dweeb] release.

5. You're stuck on an island, its hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your ipod. What track is it?
Oooooo good question, but a tough one!! Well I guess that would change from moment to moment, but my favourite album of all time is Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. So I guess I'd have to choose a track from that; a tune called 'So What?'. It would be a good chillin' out on a beach song too so good choice I reckon!

6. Which do you prefer playing Live or recording albums?
I love both, but nothing beats the thrill of a live audience who are loving it, especially when they're singing along, that's immense!

7. Where is the best gig venue you have played at?
For me our best show ever was in Slovakia last summer at a festival called Camp Fest, (something lost in translation there I think!). But yeah, those Slovaks went mad for us.... and it helped that there was about 4000 of them!

8. Any planned gigs this year?
Yes indeed. Right now we're doing a lot of writing, developing a new sound. But we'll be back on the road soon enough, we've got a tour planned with LZ7 for June so keep your eyes out for that. We're also in the process of organising tours in Denmark and Slovakia for 2009.

9. Do you enjoying playing the festivals?
Love 'em! Nothing quite like that festival atmosphere.

10. What does the next year hold for [dweeb]?
Tours, writing and hopefully a new release! Keep your eyes on www.myspace.com/dweebmusic for updates on all that stuff.
