Interview: Jesseca Toovey
Jesseca Toovey is a songwriter and worship leader who has been leading others into worship for almost two decades. Louder Than The Music spoke with Jesseca to find out how she started out in music, and to find out more about her single 'Refiner'.
For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?
For those who may not know me, my name is Jesseca Toovey. I'm originally from southern California. I have been singing since I could talk! Every home video of me, I'm singing something! My first memories of singing were Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. My family relocated to Glenwood Springs. CO and I have been here ever since. I sang in choirs, talent shows. and more during my teenage years and after high school I started singing on the worship team at my church. I have now been leading worship for almost two decades in Glenwood Springs. Music and singing has always been a huge part of my everyday life as far back as I can remember.
Tell us about your single 'Refiner' and what the inspiration behind it was?
Refiner was written during the pandemic in 2020 out of my desire to draw closer to God by his refining fire. Psalms 51:10 says to create in me a pure heart. When we are refined in his fire and by his presence we become pure in heart. This scripture and desire is the inspiration behind the song.
Do you have any plans to release more music in the near future?
I do! I am currently working on another project that will be released this Spring so stay tuned!
What message would you like people to take from your music?
My prayer is that my music would bring a message of hope, strength, and faith! We all go through seasons and music is such a powerful way for us to walk through life's seasons free and full of faith!
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
My style of music is Christian Contemporary/Worship music. There are many influences and too many to name!
If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?
Naomi Raine. I just love her presence style, and overall heart for worship
How would you define success in your career as an artist?
I would define success in my career as lives changed. It's not about anything but lives, it's about my music changing the hearts of those who hear it. If one person is ministered to by the words or presence of my songs, then it has done what I believe God intended it to do.
You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your phone. What track is it?

What does the next year hold for you?
This year holds more releases, more connections, some traveling, and more! I am excited for what God will do this year through me!
