Interview: Jemimah Paine
Classically-trained singer/songwriter Jemimah Paine just released her latest single 'Head & Heart'. Louder Than The Music chatted with this UK-based artist to find out more about her music and her plans to release a new EP later this year.
For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?
I was born into a very musical family on the Island of Guernsey and moved to London to study Theology, music and worship when I was 18. I have lived in London ever since and for the last 4 years have been pursuing music full time.
Tell us about your new single 'Head & Heart' and what the inspiration behind it was?
I am so excited about my new single! It’s basically the ‘why’ to what I do. I have a passion for people to know Jesus not just in their heads but their hearts too and that’s what the song is about, making that 18 inch journey and choosing to have a personal relationship with Jesus.
That song is taken from your forthcoming EP - what more can you tell us about that?
Sure, the new EP will be out on May 26th and the whole thing was written and recorded in 4 days in a studio in Kent, England. Each song contains honest personal reflections of things I have spoken about with God over my life. The songs cover topics such as grief, loss and love and I think in each song there is something that everyone can relate to.
What message would you like people to take from your music?
I would like everyone to know that it’s never too late for them to have a relationship with God and that they can let Him into their hearts so He can transform their everyday lives, I also would love everyone to know that God journeys with us in all the highs and lows of life.
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
My style is contemporary pop, I am influenced by Lucy Grimble, Jake Isaac, Mark Barlow and Lauren Daigle, to name a few!
If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?
I would love to write with Mark Barlow, his writing is true, passionate and his musicianship in his songs is nothing but excellent!
How would you define success in your career as an artist?
Success for me would be that people would know the character and heart of Jesus more through my music.
What is your favorite album of all time?
‘Hymns & Soul’ by Mark Barlow.
You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your phone. What track is it?
This is an excellent question! At the moment I think it would be ‘precious’ by Mark Barlow!
What does the next year hold for you?
I am about to go on a small UK tour to share my upcoming EP and continue to raise money to make more music. I’ll also continue to work on some more songs too!
