Joseph Habedank Shares Deeply Personal Tribute 'A Letter to Mom' Inspired by His Mother's Miraculous Survival

May 02 2026

Award-winning artist Joseph Habedank delivers one of the most emotional and personal songs of his career with the release of 'A Letter to Mom,' available now on Daywind Records. Inspired by his mother’s recent near-death experience, the song stands as a powerful tribute to life, faith, and the enduring bond between a mother and her son.

In November 2025, Habedank’s mother suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, her heart stopping for more than 20 minutes. What followed was a desperate fight for life where she spent several days on life support, in a coma, and unimaginable uncertainty. Then, in what the family describes as nothing short of a miracle, she began to wake. On December 20, she was released from the hospital, forever changing Habedank’s perspective on life and gratitude to his Lord.

Faced with the weight of that moment, Habedank turned to songwriting.

Written by Habedank alongside acclaimed songwriters Michael Farren and Tony Wood, “A Letter to Mom” captures the quiet, profound moments that define a mother’s love - sleepless nights, years of sacrifice, unwavering faith, and the strength it takes to raise a child and eventually let them go.

“When I walked through this, I knew I had to write about it,” Habedank shares. “When I sat down with Tony and Michael, out of anything I could come up with to say… the only words that came to mind were ‘thank you’.”

The song’s message resonates through its deeply moving lyrics:
“Mom, I know I’ll never know just what it takes
To walk the road you’ve walked…
Those faithful folded hands made me the man I am…
So Mom, thank you.”

Rather than focusing on perfection, the song honors perseverance, the grace-filled journey of motherhood marked by both joy and hardship. It reflects on life’s ups and downs as “holy ground,” shaped by faith, resilience, and God’s presence through every step.

“This song is everything I want to say to my mom,” Habedank adds. “After coming so close to losing her, I don’t take a single moment for granted. I hope it reminds people to say what matters while they still can.”

Arriving just ahead of Mother’s Day, “A Letter to Mom” is poised to become a meaningful anthem for families everywhere—encouraging listeners to pause, reflect, and express gratitude for the ones who gave them life.

At its core, the song is a reminder of two powerful truths: the unbreakable bond between a mother and child, and the sacred gift of life itself.

“We all were praying on our knees for a complete recovery,” shares Dusty Wells, Director of A&R and Label Relations for Daywind Records. "Joseph has such a deep faith and has preserved through so much diversity in his life and overcome addiction and many other issues that were anchored so strongly on his love of God. His mom’s return to health is a prime example of God’s healing hands. This song is one of the most faith-driven songs I have heard, much less to be able to help share.”
