Jun 04 2013

British rapper Guvna B made history yesterday when it was confirmed he has become the first urban artist to top the Official Christian & Gospel Albums Chart, which is sponsored by Compassion.

The East London rapper released his latest album 'Odd 1 Out' last week, which features ex-Sugababe and current Mutya Keisha Siobhan member Keisha Buchanan. Guvna B knocks Amy Grant's 'How Mercy Looks From Here' off the top spot, and his 'Odd 1 Out' album is also currently Number 22 on the Official R&B Album Chart.

Guvna B is a MOBO award winning rapper and Princes Trust Ambassador. 'Odd 1 Out' sees him collaborating with mainstream artists and producers to pioneer taking positive music to the masses.

Writing on Instagram in response to news of his Number 1 chart position, Guvna B said, "Too humbled. Thanks to everyone that has supported it in any way!"

"Christian music has come a long way since kumbayah my Lord and mass choirs in white robes", he joked. "I'm trying make quality music touching on topics that are relevant to society without forgetting where I came from. God is for everyone and I spread that message not by being judgemental or trying to bible bash a next man, but by being me, sharing my story and sharing the positivity and faith that change my life. Thanks everyone!"
