Review: Paul Saxon & Friends
Don't Fall Asleep

Jul 05 2011

Paul Saxon is twenty three and a youth worker from Bolton, England, who has just released his debut album named Don't Fall Asleep. The album inspiration comes from Paul working in Zambia for three months, he also draws his inspiration from the bible verses in Matthew 25:1-13 and 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-11.

Opening track Glorious kicks things off with a very subtle piano, this is until bass and drums drop in to add an extra layer of sound. This track is a gentle start to the album, with soft heartfelt vocals singing "Isn't He glorious, Isn't He shining bright, the lost will see, and they will be redeemed, to the Lord of all". This song grew on me the more I listened, with it's very catchy chorus that builds into an even more beautiful bridge that declares the glorious God we are here to worship.

The album moves into an electric guitar led indie sound. Lyrically, the majority of the album is about God's love, and what He has done for us. Two of the major highlights of the album are title track Don't Fall Asleep and Into my Life. Both of these songs are slow to medium tempo, with light acoustic guitar work that really adds a depth to the atmosphere of the album. There is some great guitar work on Into My Life

, in fact the guitar work throughout the album is very strong as well.

For me, this album has some really nice moments and for an independent artist this is a positive first release showing plenty of potential. Paul Saxon with his indie worship sounds
has written some great tracks for this album. It is definitely worth finding out more about this artist.
